Since Chemcraft is protected by third-party
anti-hacker software, some antivirus programs may produce false positive
virus detections, and this can lead to concerns about the risk of computer
viruses. Below, we present two screenshots of antivirus tests performed on
the latest builds of Chemcraft using a public online antivirus testing
service VirusTotal:
These tests were conducted for the Windows 64-bit (Chemcraft_b802bt_win64.zip) and Windows 32-bit (Chemcraft_b802at_win32.zip) versions of Chemcraft build 802. The file Chemcraft_b802bt_win64.exe contains the same files as the file Chemcraft_b802bt_win64.zip, which is shown in the first screenshot. Considerations
for Future Transition to Code Signing to Avoid Issues with Antivirus
Software
We are considering acquiring code signing for Chemcraft in the future;
however, this will require a significant amount of work on our part.
Currently, we have not yet decided whether to pursue this, as the absence of
code signing is a common issue not only for us, but also for many small
developers of scientific and other software, including freeware. For
example, we know that the FreeTube program does not have code signing, and
the Mac version of the Orca software package faces similar challenges. The
demand of using the code signing in the Western world can easily transfer
into a crackdown or suppression of small business (because small entrepreneurs
can pose a threat for ruling global elites).
